Since 1200 paper has been considered a precious commodity.
The fact itself that it's use was limited only for very important matters gives us to understand that, at least in principle, it was not a very economical commodity.
The list of famous people who have been using the paper is very long.
Among others, Mozart received a supply of Amalfi paper in exchange for a concert in the home of a wealthy Neopolitan nobleman . . . .
